In HPLC applications, deuterium lamps are considered consumables and must be replaced as soon as their performance declines. Kompatibilität

Wichtig ist, dass die Ersatzteile bzw. das Zubehör, das Sie kaufen, kompatibel zu Ihrem HPLC-System von Agilent ist. Ansonsten laufen Sie Gefahr, dass sich das Zubehör nicht einsetzen bzw. nicht richtig benutzen lässt oder sogar die falschen Analyse-Daten liefert.

Daher sollten Sie immer darauf achten, welche System-Kompatibilität bei Ihrem Wunsch-Produkt angegeben ist. Ein Produkt ist entweder spezifisch auf ein HPLC-System zugeschnitten oder harmoniert mit unterschiedlichen Modellreihen - zum Beispiel eine Spüldichtung oder eine Kolbendichtung für die Agilent 1100 Series, Agilent 1200 Series sowie die Agilent 1050 Series.

Caution is advised when handling deuterium lamps, especially avoiding direct contact with the light exit window, as fingerprints can obstruct UV radiation.

Moreover, shortwave UV light is potentially harmful to the retina, making safety precautions essential when changing lamps.

How does a deuterium lamp work?

Components:

The lamp body of a deuterium lamp is always made of specialized synthetic quartz alloys, since ordinary glass would absorb most of the UV radiation.

Ignition:

To ignite a deuterium lamp, it is first heated with a low DC voltage, recognizable by a faint orange-red glow. A high-voltage pulse then initiates the actual ignition. Electrons are emitted from the filament, which, when passing through the electric field, gain enough energy to ionize additional gas molecules, releasing more electrons. This process leads to a stable gas discharge.

Wear and Replacement:

After approximately 2,000 hours, part of the filament evaporates and deposits on the inner surface of the glass body, absorbing most of the UV radiation. Fingerprints have a similar effect, so lamps should never be touched at the light exit window. Additionally, due to the diffusion of the filling gas into the glass body, the ignition spark may no longer suffice to sustain stable deuterium emission. At this point, it is time to install a new lamp.

Where are deuterium lamps used?

The degradation of the filament results in deposits on the lamp glass, which dampen UV radiation. Additionally, aging of the gas inside the lamp can lead to ignition issues, affecting functionality. To maintain accurate detection in HPLC, it is essential to regularly inspect and replace the lamp when necessary.
