Syringe pre-filter

In chromatography, each sample must be absolutely free of dust or other contaminants before it is analyzed by GC or HPLC. The use of syringe filters is a clean and cost-effective method of sample preparation. The selection of high-quality materials that have already been tested for interfering substances is particularly important here. This is the only way to obtain reliable results for your substance analysis.
WICOM offers you many different types of syringe filters as well as other articles from the field of chromatography at a favorable price. The choice of syringe filter depends mainly on the area in which it is to be used. For example, a filter made of cellulose nitrate is particularly suitable if you work in the field of food chemistry. In addition to the material, the filter size and the pore size are of course also important characteristics of a filter.

Labware: Syringe filters

Perfect Flow® - Syringe Filters for highest demands

Often, these inexpensive and easy-to-use filter solutions, such as the WICOM PERFECT-FLOW® Syringe Filters developed by us, make it possible to avoid complicated sample preparation by centrifugation or extraction (SPE), for example. In addition, the use of high-quality syringe filters actively contributes to extending the service life of your HPLC column: By effectively retaining even the smallest and smallest particles that could otherwise accumulate on the frit of the HPLC column and negatively influence the results of your laboratory analytics (e.g. in UV detection), the use of these so-called syringe filters helps you to ensure the batch consistency of your analyzed samples at all times and at the same time to keep the wear of your valuable HPLC or GC column low.

Buy various syringe filters at low prices

Filters such as Pall's Acrodisc Syringe Filters or Whatman's Spartan Filters have set standards in this market segment that other manufacturers have to measure up to.
We are proud to offer you with our series of patented PERFECT-FLOW® syringe filters with color coding absolute top products for laboratory analytics made in Germany in our online store, which are equal to the developments of manufacturers such as Macherey-Nagel, Pall, Whatman or Thermo Fisher in terms of material quality, reliability and the range of applications. And with us even at a very reasonable price, which is often significantly below the recommended prices of the major brands.

Syringe filter selection: e.g. cellulose, PES, universal membrane

In their basic design, the various types of syringe filters hardly differ: a filter membrane is installed in a housing made of inert plastic. The material used for the housing is usually either high-purity polypropylene (PP housing) or polyethylene (HD-PE housing) - both materials are characterized by their high chemical stability and low content of extractable substances in the pure state. Very different materials are used for the membrane of the syringe filters, depending on the intended use in laboratory analysis.
Just like the well-known Acrodisc filters or the Chromafil series from Macherey-Nagel, we manufacture the membranes of our PERFECT-FLOW® Syringe Filters from, among other things, chemical-resistant Teflon (PTFE) for working with organic media, regenerated cellulose for aqueous solutions (particularly suitable for use in pharmaceutical analysis and as an environmentally friendly alternative to the use of PES and other plastics), or nylon, which is also known as a universal membrane because of its versatility. For aggressive substances such as acids and bases, membranes made of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) for sterile filtration are of course also available in our online store from the PERFECT-FLOW® series.
Depending on the sample volume, filters with a diameter of 13 or 25 mm are available. The porosity of the membranes varies between 0.2µm or 0.45µm, depending on the desired separation efficiency.

The following is a brief list of the different filter materials and their properties:

  • Cellulose Acetate (CA): Hydrophilic membrane; convinces with a good dimensional stability in aqueous solutions; a cellulose acetate filter is particularly suitable for the filtration of tissue cultures and biological macromolecules
  • Glass fiber (GF): Inert filter; prevents clogging of the membrane as a prefilter for other filters
  • Polyvinlyde difluoride (PVDF): Hydrophilic membrane; is suitable for both non-polar and polar, but not for aqueous solutions, can be used very well in HPLC technology
  • Polyethersulfone (PES): Hydrophilic membrane; very stable to alcohol, bases and acids (except for oxidizing acids), is mechanically very stable; is well suited for aqueous or slightly organic solutions with higher flow rates
  • Nylon (PA): Hydrophilic membrane; resistant to many organic solvents; very suitable for organic, aqueous and medium-polar liquids and has a high protein retention value
  • Teflon (PTFE): Hydrophobic membrane; suitable for non-polar liquids and gases; resistant to bases, solvents of all kinds and acids; not suitable for aqueous solutions. To PTFE syringe filters
  • Polyester (PET): Hydrophobic membrane; is not cytotoxic and can be used for both umpolar and polar solvents
  • Regenerated Cellulose (RC): Hydrophilic membrane (very low adsorption); suitable for both organic and aqueous liquids. Is ideal for biological samples and exhibits high chemical resistance and high flow rates
  • Cellulose nitrate (CN): commonly used in the field of microbiology, available in many pore sizes, very suitable for food and beverage analysis

Buy the right syringe filter

Find the right pore size:

The choice of syringe filter depends primarily on the chemicals to be used. For example, the different materials also each have their own properties, and the size of the filters and the pore sizes are also decisive criteria. First, filter and pore size should be determined. The following guideline values apply for the filter size: 3mm for sample volumes at less than 1 ml, 15mm for sample volumes up to 10 ml and 25mm for sample volumes from 10 ml. In our online store, you will usually find syringe filters with filter sizes ranging from 13 to 25mm in diameter.
Choose a pore size between 0.20 µm and 0.45 µm. 0.20 µm is suitable for UHPLC and HPLC columns with a pore size of less than 3 µm. You should opt for a syringe filter with 0.45 µm if the pore size of the HPLC columns is less than 3.5 µm.

Syringe filters for laboratory analytics - all manufacturers in our store

As analysis professionals with many years of experience in sales through our online store, we at WICOM naturally also know: Particularly in the pharmaceutical industry, certain filter types are often precisely specified by methods or strict test regulations. If our PERFECT-FLOW® products are not an alternative for you, we can of course also supply you with syringe filters from Pall (Acrodisc) or Whatman (Puradisc, Spartan) and many others. In our store we also offer numerous other products in the field of syringes and filters, such as disposable syringes, microliter sy ringes or filters for laboratories.
